Imminent supply crisis in 'green metals'
Imminent supply crisis in 'green metals'.
"The ecological transition could be at risk as producers of minerals critical to the manufacture of electric batteries, wind turbines, and solar panels are unable to increase production in proportion to global demand."
That's the headline and the sub-headline of an article published one week ago in the newspaper "Cincodias45" of ElPais (https://cincodias.elpais.com/economia/2023-09-26/es-inminente-una-crisis-de-oferta-en-los-metales-verdes.html)
The claim is clear: the green metals are insufficient to support the green transition that the European community and some States in the US are pushing ahead.
Over a year ago, I discussed "the importance of rare earths" with John Morris Pereira during an episode of the M4W Podcast (https://podcasts.apple.com/it/podcast/marketing4waste/id1601179844?i=1000555584939).
The point is that even if producers are discussing the scarcity, local governments are not considering it. The worst thing is that with the amount of rare earth used in our technological equipment (laptops, mobile phones, TVs, and more), they are not processed in our countries when they become waste.
In many cases, the secondary raw materials obtainable from them are not recovered correctly. The other case sees this type of waste exported to countries where only the precious metals (gold, platinum, and silver) are recovered, and the others are wasted in the soil.
As I said multiple times in several articles published in blog posts, in magazines, and shared on my social media profiles, this situation offers an excellent opportunity for e-waste companies and junk removal.
Indeed, these materials are becoming fundamental for the production of all the new types of equipment, from your laundry machine to your new shredding system.
And if you want to support Real Sustainability, the one that sees the production of the new equipment close to you and not on the other side of the planet, that's the best way to contribute actively.
It's not difficult.
It requires knowledge and a defined strategy.
But the results are amazing!
